Candlemas Festival (Fiesta de la Candelaria)
From January 26 to February 3, one of the region’s most important festivals takes place, featuring artistic, cultural, artisanal, gastronomic, livestock, and tourism displays in honor of the city’s patron saint.
Feast of the Holy Cross (Fiesta de la Santa Cruz)
From April 23 to May 3, this festivity is held in the Cruz Verde neighborhood. It’s celebrated with jarana dancing, rosaries, and typical regional food.
Valladolid Cultural Autumn (Otoño Cultural de Valladolid)
During October and November, cultural, artistic, and social events are held at various locations throughout the city. There are also cultural exchanges with other municipalities and states across Mexico.
Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos)
For the festivities of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day (November 1 and 2), it’s customary to place altars in homes with food offerings for the departed. During these regional celebrations, jaranas are danced, and competitions are held among participants.
During this time, the Hanal Pixán also takes place, which is an exhibition of altars and offerings for the deceased. Special dishes are prepared during these festivities, such as wheat flour rolls shaped like animals and dolls for deceased children, and a large, round stuffed cakes.
